The Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has approved A$103.3 million ($80 million) towards three commercial-scale renewable hydrogen projects. Its Renewable Hydrogen Deployment Funding Round, originally set at A$70 million, received 36 expressions of interest with a shortlist of 7 projects invited to submit full applications. The three projects that were selected will each establish a 10MW electrolyser.

ARENA will provide up to $42.5 million towards an Engie Renewables Australia project to produce renewable hydrogen in a consortium with Yara Pilbara Fertilisers. The hydrogen will be used to produce ammonia at the Yara Pilbara's existing ammonia facility in Karratha, Western Australia. ATCO Australia will receive up to A$28.7 million in funding for a gas blending project at its Clean Energy Innovation Park in Warradarge, Western Australia. Up to A$32.1 million in funding was awarded to Australian Gas Networks Limited (AGIG) for its hydrogen project that will be used for gas blending into existing natural gas pipelines.
