Region:

Regional Production Lead
Today’s Exile is Federico Fische, President at Alternative and Sustainable Energy Inc. For Federico, learning is key. He may have switched his career three times, but he won’t be leaving the world of sustainable energy for some time, as he continues to learn something new every day.

Welcome to Exiled: Dealmakers on a Desert Island, a podcast where we ‘strand’ a guest on a remote island and ask them who from their professional past, present, and future they’d choose to be stranded with. After all, it’s people that make a profession.

Today’s Exile is Federico Fische, President at Alternative and Sustainable Energy Inc. For Federico, learning is key. He may have switched his career three times, but he won’t be leaving the world of sustainable energy for some time, as he continues to learn something new every day.

From his past

Federico chose the Head of Engineering from his days working in start-up energy companies. Here, he learned the importance of energy as a technology, understanding the impact that project finance can have on people’s lives. This message has stayed with him throughout his career in energy, and continues to inspire him today.

From his present

This one was tricky, as Federico has a strong network of energy professionals who have shaped his career. In the end, he decided on Patrick D’Addario, Strategic Advisor for the Americas for the Private Financing Advisory Network. Both coming up in the industry in the 90s, Patrick and Federico have a lot in common as developers pushing energy solutions in the Americas. Patrick’s determination to keep learning matches with Federico’s values.

From his future

Having been clear from the start about his passion for project finance’s impact on people’s lives, Federico’s future pick remains rooted in community. He opted for Javier Garcia, Interim CEO of the World Central Kitchen, an NGO that provides food and shelter in emergencies. He would love to learn about the operational side of the NGO in a world where developing countries bear the brunt of the climate crisis. Perhaps they could learn from each other, finding new ways to support communities through challenging times.

Bonus round

Federico is inspired by the younger generation, and for his bonus round he selected Nicole, a millennial who he has worked with on several projects. With her appetite to learn and find solutions - not to mention her drive and trail running skills - Nicole would be an ideal island companion.

Federico never stands still, and is now working on plugging the gaps left by USAID on regional electricity integration in Latin America and the Caribbean, and is looking at potential projects in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Tune in next week, when we’ll be speaking to our next guest!
